Each year as we approach the Christmas season, I have the same idea for a churchwide project. And each year, I fail to follow through with it. The idea is to create our own CBC “advent devotional.” It’s not a novel idea – I know other churches and Christian institutions have done it. But I imagine it would be an encouraging and edifying project. In my imagination, it would include daily readings for advent, each reading based upon a verse or passage of Scripture pertaining to the incarnation of Jesus the Word. And each reading would be written by a member of CBC. That’s where you all would come in! I, with the help of a few others, would probably select the Bible texts. And then we would employ you to write a devotional word that briefly explains the significance of the passage, and applies it to our hearts and minds. It would take a little coordination and preparation (and maybe some good content editing and graphic design work), but it doesn’t seem terribly difficult to construct, assuming we have enough willing to write! And I think the fruit of the labor would be worth it – to be encouraged daily by the people of the church that we know and love. What do you all think? Is this worthwhile? Would you be interested in reading or writing or contributing in some way? Let me know if you think this is a good idea, and maybe we’ll actually do it next year!
