Speak of God's Goodness
August 13, 2026Scripture repeatedly calls us to openly and willingly speak of God's goodness and His faithfulness. You can look to Psalm 34:3; Psalm 71:8; Psalm 145:7; Luke 8:39; 1 Peter 3:15; or 1 Chronicles 16:8, for example. We can simply look at Psalm 107:2; "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble..." With this biblical witness, I'd like to encourage us all to be ever and increasingly willing to speak of what God has done in our lives, to those both outside and inside the church. Of course, we sing God's praises and confess our faith together in corporate worship. But we should also speak of God's faithfulness not just generally to the church, but specifically in our own individual circumstances. We ought to be ready and willing to tell our own stories of how God has been gracious and merciful to us. We can practice this several ways in the church. Over the last several years, during the Sunday School hour, we have occasionally had "Member Spotlights" wherein we interview individuals and get a survey of how God has worked over the course of their lives. Soon, we also want to share more specific, video testimonies (called "CBC Stories") of how God has worked in singular, specific moments in peoples' lives. However, as we've tried to recruit people to tell their stories, I've noticed that a surprising number of people aren't comfortable with sharing their stories. Admittedly, I don't know all of the specific circumstances and contexts behind those hesitations, and some may be very justifiable. But I would hope that if called upon, we would generally be more willing to speak of what God has done in our lives. You never know how your specific story might encourage someone else who is experiencing something similar. I know it's not always easy to share publicly. Fear of public speaking (even if it's a recording) is real. But if the fear of others' opinions or uncertainty as to whether God can use you are obstacles, it may be good to be reminded that God is glorified when we proclaim Him, and all those in Christ have a story (or many stories) of His mercy and goodness that are worth sharing and hearing.
