Last Sunday I should have remembered to say thank you for allowing me the privilege to travel to our USMB national gathering and represent CBC. There were a number of highlights, including the chance to recall God's faithfulness in and through our family of churches. We will have a chance to celebrate God's faithfulness on Sunday as well, as we celebrate our 60^th anniversary as Community Bible Church. For six decades, God has built upon the foundation of the gospel, laid initially through Art and Norma Harder and the families that followed them. At the national gathering, USMB director Aaron Box prompted us to think in generations. We have a responsibility to pass on our gospel faith not just to the next generation, but through the next generation. Even as we teach and raise our children in the church, we have a calling not only to teach them our faith, but to teach them to teach others our faith. There is a crucial difference between the two! We not only want to raise disciples, but raise disciples who raise disciples themselves. This is how the church continues. Consider an electrical circuit, or a long chain: one broken link and the system fails. So it is with the local church. If one generation loses the gospel of Christ, then the local church will fold. (Note that I say this only about the local church, as the church universal, as we know, will not fail). This weekend, as we celebrate through our Summer Shindig and 60^th anniversary on Sunday, let's not take for granted or forget to praise God for six decades of gospel faithfulness at CBC.
