I'm very excited to start properly in 1 Samuel this Sunday. I've wanted to do a deep dive into the life of David for a while, and eventually we'll get there! I Samuel essentially focuses on three major figures - Samuel, Saul, and David. So we'll tackle it in three chunks, covering the portions of Samuel and Saul this year, and finally getting to David in 2027, Lord willing! (We'll also spend time again in Romans this year.) 1 Samuel is full of familiar Bible stories and characters, and I'm looking forward to studying those together. I think the narrative will connect with young and old. I'm also excited to explore some of the themes of 1 Samuel, specifically God's sovereignty in providing a fitting king and deliverer for his people, which of course paves the way for the ultimate Rescuer, King Jesus. And, 1 Samuel shows us that while man looks on the outside and is concerned about external appearances, God looks on the inside and sees things as they truly are. Would you pray with me that this series challenges us and encourages us as a church to more greatly and deeply trust in the Lord's leading of His people? And let me know what you're excited to hear from 1 Samuel!
