If you are a member or regular attender of CBC, you should soon receive an email about being placed on one of our elders' "Pastoral Care Rosters." If you are newer you might ask, what is a “Pastoral Care Roster,” and how did I get placed on one? Allow me to explain!

In Acts 20:28, the apostle Paul gives a farewell charge to the elders of the church of Ephesus, in which he says the following: “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.” As elders we have a biblical mandate, by God's grace, to pay attention to all of the “flock” of CBC.

In order to accomplish this, we examine our full church roster and make sure that everyone is placed on an elder’s Pastoral Care Roster. That elder is responsible to pray, respond to questions, and provide spiritual support as needed for each person on his respective list. Additionally, each Pastoral Care Roster has designated deacons, who provide additional care and mercy ministry in coordination with the elder. Our entire goal is to care well for the people God loves. And we do so in a structured and organized way to ensure no one is left without support.

Here are some other details about elder/deacon care and Pastoral Care Rosters!

  • If you are participating in a 242 Group, your elder is assigned based on which 242 Group you attend.

  • Each elder is committed to pray for those on his roster, and periodically to make personal contact.

  • It is my goal to proactively visit everyone in the church, and your elder may or may not come along with me as I do pastoral visitations. But you are free to reach out to your elder any time.

  • Your elder is available as a “go-to” for any questions, encouragements, or concerns you have regarding the church, or even general matters of spiritual life and the Christian faith.

  • While you are on one elder’s roster, this does not mean you will never receive care from another elder (or member)! These rosters are meant to ensure that no one “falls through the cracks,” and are a safeguard against that. They are not a straitjacket preventing additional ministry.

If you have any questions, please let us know! Our hope, prayer, and charge before the Lord is to shepherd the flock faithfully, under the guidance of our Chief Shepherd.
