I'm getting back into the groove this week and still basking in the glow of a newly remodeled kitchen. I could say more about that here, but may save that for another time because I want to take a moment to look ahead to Saturday's Summer Shindig! Here are a few updates and tidbits of information for you all as we look to gather this weekend!

  • Show up and bring food at/by 4:30! We'll officially start the meal soon after.
  • This is a potluck, and meats/main dishes, sides, and desserts are all encouraged. Two years ago we had a ton of meat - last year we ran low very quickly. So if you want to bring a meat/main dish, that would be very much welcome!
  • We'll give one prize each for the best main dish, side, dessert, and item made by a kid (so kids bring your best creations)!
  • Before we open up the food line, we'll kick off the Shindig with a little competition. The last couple years we did "pie-eating," but not many want to try their hand at it (no one seems too eager to dethrone Kyle Becerra). So, this year we are going to see who can eat the most mini-powdered donuts in two minutes! We've got a few young men signed up for that, and I want to see some other young people throw their hat in the ring!
  • I'm looking forward to seeing who takes down the cornhole tournament this year.
  • I'm hoping to win a round or two of bingo (called expertly by Dan Payne). I never seem to have great luck in that game - maybe this year is the year for me.
  • We may need some extra hands in the kitchen, and in setting up and tearing down chairs and tables. I'm sure there will be many helping hands.
  • This is an event just for us to hang out and have fun - but definitely feel free to invite friends and neighbors!
