Pastor's Note
June 19, 2025Several weeks ago, I first heard about a scholar by the name of Wes Huff. His name was making the rounds for a while before that. He is an evangelical scholar with expertise in ancient documents and works for Apologetics Canada. He gained recent notoriety, particularly on YouTube, because of a "debate" with an influencer by the name of Billy Carson. Carson has made a name for himself by claiming to be an expert in ancient religions and discrediting Scripture and the historicity of Christianity. You may be interested in watching that debate, as it is a great example of what happens when someone who is well-educated, thoughtful, and an expert in the field (Huff) interacts with someone who has a lot of talking points and compelling takes, and has garnered a following for it, but hasn't been truly educated (Carson). It isn't a debate so much as a lesson. Beyond that, it is a great example of someone, in Wes Huff, who is able to speak with authority and conviction and stand for truth, while also being loving, patient, and without condescension. After that debate, Huff's name got out there, and he was even invited on the Joe Rogan podcast. For those who aren't familiar with Joe Rogan, his podcast is one of if not the most popular podcasts in our nation. He has a huge reach and influence, is an interesting personality, and his appeal is his willingness to ask questions about and consider anything and everything. He's not at all a Christian but, apparently, has now begun attending a church. According to an article I'll link below, this is in line with somewhat of a resurgence of young people showing interest in the Bible. I think there's something to that. I think, and hope, that after so many years of our world claiming absolute truth is a myth, there is a hunger for people wanting to know that something can be trusted, tested, verified, known, and believed. Some are looking for solid ground to stand on. People like Wes Huff are helping people to find solid ground, and we should pray for him and others like him, as they are great gift to the body of Christ. You may want to check out some of his work and even pass it along to those who are seeking or skeptical. I think you'll be encouraged and buoyed in your own faith.
