One of the requests made at the last triennial all church survey was better communications between the elders and the congregation. In response we decided to try using the Pastor's Blog for that purpose. It seemed like a good medium to communicate, as well as a chance for Pastor Aaron to have a week off from the blog now and again, so here goes!

We met last Thursday, March 20, for our regular monthly meeting. A large portion of time was devoted to pastoral care items. We try to review those we know of who have spiritual or physical needs, and discuss how to meet those needs. Some needs are met within our 242 groups. As written in Galatians 6:2, “Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.“ If you have chosen not be an active participant in a 242 group, please consider joining.

Another item we are discussing regards the Vision Team Summary introduced at the Family Gathering. The summary included a covenant (remember Pastor Aaron's “3's”) that includes: Worship (for the glory of Christ), Follow (for the growth of His church), and Share (for the Gospel in our community). Our thought is that each elder will meet with each member of his pastoral care group periodically, and the covenant will be used as a basis for discussion, self-assessment, and review of each person's spiritual health towards the goal of making disciples. Matthew 28:19, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations."

Finally, one of the last items we discuss every month is the routine administration of the church. One thing that stands out here is how the financial position of the church has improved. Last November, fiscal YTD giving was lagging not only behind our budget, but at levels that were among the lowest in recent years. After being brought to the attention of the congregation, giving has increased to where we now find ourselves ahead of budget. Your generous response to sharing a portion of what God provides comes from faith, trust, and humility. Thanks be to God. 2 Corinthians 9:7, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
