Pastor's Note
Do you have any recent experiences that highlight God's grace? Do you have compelling ministry stories? Have you seen God bringing fruit through some of your gospel efforts? If so, we want to hear about it!
Our annual SoupFest celebration is coming up Sunday evening, and it occurs to me that this may be the first SoupFest for a number of our people. So, in preparation, here are some notes and tips to help you prepare!
Keep ReadingThis ought to be our response should anyone ask how we account for growth in our midst. A simple shrug. Who knows? We put some gospel seed down. We watered it with the word. Then God did the work according to His will.
Keep ReadingThe elder retreat was held last Saturday. Mission Southside graciously allowed us to use their facilities for our all-day retreat (as they have in recent years). We appreciate their generosity.
Keep ReadingI mentioned on Sunday that sin in our hearts and minds inevitably affects us physically, and what we do physically affects us spiritually. We could probably find many examples of this. Simply consider how prone you are to sin when you haven't gotten sufficient rest and sleep.
Keep ReadingAt the board meetings for Multiply, we were able to spend a few hours talking about the state of missions and the work of Multiply within the United States Mennonite Brethren. A portion of this discussion was led by Aaron Box, who has been the USMB National Director for a little over a year. During this time, Aaron spoke about the goals for our denomination over the next few years, as determined by national leaders. I thought these goals were fascinating and helpful, and wanted to pass them along to you, with a few of my own thoughts.
Keep ReadingWe have supported our missionaries well, and have been privileged to send out some of our own on the mission field. But we need more CBCers to go set foot on foreign soil and see the work of missions up close. Something different happens when you see for yourself where the gospel needs to break through.

If you're like me, there are certain passages and verses in Scripture that have always jumped off the page and stuck with you. One of those for me is Colossians 1:28; "Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ." According to Colossians 1:28, how does Paul present everyone mature in Christ? By proclaiming Him (which includes both warning and teaching).

As hinted at by Pastor Russ last week, and as you might notice as you read this, the CBC Weekly looks a bit different this week! Led by Laura’s efforts, we’ve been working to update the CBC Weekly and Sunday Bulletin (something that we’ve actually wanted to do for a couple years). We are updating these because we found there was a lot of unnecessary overlap in information in the two pieces.

Since we didn’t meet last week, we didn’t have a chance to tell you about our adult Sunday School classes coming up January 12th. (We’ll reschedule those member spotlights for another Sunday.) Here is the information on the new round of classes starting Sunday...

How do you prepare for a new sermon series? I prepare to preach a new sermon series usually with a healthy mixture of excitement and panic. But how do you, or we as a church, prepare for a new sermon series? As we start Romans, I would like to recommend you familiarize yourself with the whole book over the next few months.
