Pastor's Note - October 7
I was reminded on Sunday that October is “pastor appreciation month.” I don’t know where exactly this tradition started, but I won’t argue it! In all honesty, our church is an encouraging place to serve as a pastor, and I hope and trust it is a blessed place to serve in any capacity. I want to take this opportunity to make sure others are honored this month as well. It should be known to all that our church is not led by any one person other than Jesus Christ – He is our Chief Shepherd. And then, our church is not led by one or two staff pastors, but a group of pastor/elders. So, I would encourage you to take the opportunity this month to somehow show appreciation for all of our elder/pastors here at CBC. They serve incredibly faithfully, and put in extra hours that no one sees, loving and caring for people, and providing servant leadership. I thank the Lord for our elders. And, beyond that, we have a great group of deacons who also serve faithfully. I don’t know if there is a “deacon appreciation month,” so I would also encourage us all to thank and affirm our deacons in October! Furthermore, there are many others who serve on staff, in leadership, or in some capacity at CBC, and why not take the opportunity to thank and encourage them? I suppose what I’m saying is that October is a great month to appreciate all who sacrifice time to serve the Lord here in this local body of Jesus Christ. Let’s follow Paul’s words in Romans 12:10 and “outdo one another in showing honor.”
